% Change (Number 1 to Number 2)

This mode will calculate:

  1. Percent increase – This mode can also be used to calculate gross sales markup
  2. Ex: Increase from 10 to 15
    (new – original) / original = answer
    (15 – 10) / 10 = 5 / 10 = 0.50 = 50%
  3. Percent decrease – This mode can also be used to calculate gross margin
  4. Ex: Decrease from 15 to 10
    (new – original) / original = answer
    (10 – 15) / 15 = – 5 / 15 = -0.33 = 33% decrease (decrease takes place of negative sign)
  5. Percent difference
  6. Ex: Percent difference between 10 and 15
    |(number1 – number2)| / average = answer
    (15 – 10) / (15+10)/2 = 5 / 12.5 = 0.40 = 40%
  7. Number 1 as a percentage of Number 2
  8. Ex: 10 as a percentage of 20
    number1 / number2 = answer
    10 / 20 = 10 / 20 = 0.50 = 50%
  9. Number 2 as a percentage of Number 1
  10. Ex: 20 as a percentage of 10
    number2 / number1 = answer
    20 / 10 = 2.0 = 200%

% Of (Percent of number)

This mode will calculate:

  1. Percent of X
  2. Ex: 10 percent of 15
    number * (percentage/100) = answer
    (10/100) * 15 = 1.5
  3. X plus percent – This mode can also be used to calculate markup on a product
  4. Ex: 15 plus 10 percent
    number * (1 + (percentage / 100)) = answer
    15 * (1+(10/100)) = 16.5
  5. X minus percent – This mode can also be used to calculate markdown on a product
  6. Ex: 15 plus 10 percent
    number * (1 – (percentage / 100)) = answer
    15 * (1-(10/100)) = 13.5
  7. X as a percent of an original number
  8. Ex: 15 is 10% of what number
    number / (percentage / 100) = answer
    15 / (10/100) = 150
  9. X as a percent increase of an original number
  10. Ex: 15 is a 10 percent increase from what number
    number / ((percentage / 100.0) + 1.0) = answer
    15 * (1-10/100) = 13.5
  11. X as a percent decrease of an original number
  12. Ex: 15 is a 10 percent decrease from what number
    number / (1.0 – (percentage / 100.0)) = answer
    15 * (1-10/100) = 13.5
